I like to garden, but gardening is a process of perpetual hope for the future: next year perhaps the bugs won't eat the lilies, next year perhaps the tulips will come up, next year perhaps the tomatoes will ripen earlier, next year perhaps everything will be perfect... Art gives me the chance to celebrate the rare wonder of a garden that is perfect now -- and to appreciate the natural wonders that really aren't as rare as I sometimes think.
