giant sea turtle aspidochelone
Aspidochelone

edition of 10,
varied darkish bluish-greenish on white,

12x10 matted to 16x14:  $70
framed to 16x14:  $100

In medieval bestiaries the aspidochelone is a turtle so huge that
sailors mistake it for an island.  When they disembark, however, the
turtle may sink beneath their feet.  In some texts the aspidochelone
is presented as a symbol of Satan, destroying the unwary, but of
course I prefer to think the best of such a wondrous creature.  I've
imagined a scene in which turtle and humans coexist in harmony.
